Male Barali Manju (n Mano) Irali !!!

I was scanning the list of new releases and i zeroed in on this album the second it crossed my eye.No prizes for guessing why !! Mano Murthy’s name adorned it like the Pole Star on a moonless night ! After enthralling us with his creativity in producing track after splendid track, Mano Murthy has earned himself a sincere and admiring fan in almost every music-lover.

So it is with great interest that i set out to explore his new offering Male Barali Manju Irali. Join me as I unravel his latest work.

Firstly,we have Kunal Ganjawala singing ‘Ondsala Ondu’. A fast number,it starts off with two parallel beats.Kunal is brimming with energy.U can picture him singing it ! Complete justice.There are English lyrics in between,new sounds,many variations,female voice occasionally blended in….in short,all of Murthy’s neurons orienting themselves to bring out fresh trends in existing realms. Tune itself isnt worth much adulation.

I hurriedly move on to the next song. Now this is a Sonu and Shreya number titled ‘Gelathi Neenu’. As it starts, u find urself giving it the trademark Mano Murthy stamp. Melodious to the core, sung by singers who take on the major part of the responsibility of defining the tune and do it in a manner par excellence. Music is lovely.Lilting and enjoyable. Swaraalaap in between only enhances the beauty. Sonu sounds like a Kannada guy and I am convinced Shreya was a Kannadiga in her last life!! My nth pranaam to both of them for yet another masterpiece.

‘Ondu Ninna’ is next in melody queen,’ Suron Ki Shehzaadi’, Shreya Ghoshal’s voice again ! A joyous tune…peps u up in the beginning itself. Wow ! Superb tune and simply splendid instrumentals.Shreya ,please gimme permission to write ur biography because I am one fan who just cant stop writing about you ! She literally juggles notes with her vocal chords. This song provides a glimpse of the ability she has to sing with numerous variations,adding her unique ‘harkathe ‘(hindi) here and there,in zestful play with her best friends-the seven swaras ! Wonderful track.

‘Yeno Agide’ by Tippu and Supriya Ramakrishnaiah is the next one.The tune is commonplace.Not that catchy.Our Hindi films of the 90s era had loads of such tunes.Tippu and Supriya are commendable. 4/10

Manasi Prasad sings ‘Vijayambike’. She has a solid voice that takes on range with prowess. This song has a classical touch but its definitely not music u are accustomed to.Mano brings back novelty.At each instant,U are left guessing the next turn the song will take. Good piece.

‘Vidayada Veleyalli’ by another household name -K.K. It is a heavy and slow song. Sung effectively by KK. Insturmentals provide appreciable support….sounds like the violin had a role. Good one.

Alok and Inchara sing ‘Male Barali’. Another fast number . Racy beats . Inchara seems to have been handpicked for it. Alok is ok. Tune is average. The Kannada words do not sound natural.

Fnally, it is ‘Jaga Jagiso’ by Keshav Prasad and Mahalakshmi Iyer. Iyer , who has earlier belted out sum great tracks for us, somehow sounds withheld and not in full form. Same with Keshav.The song tempo is speedy and has a catchy beat sequence. Instrumentals outshine the singing in this one. On the whole,it doesnt give much competition to the best numbers in this collection.

Folks, that was Male Barali Manju Irali. Mano Murthy has not disappointed though his films usually pamper our ears with more than just a couple of outstanding pieces. Still, this set of songs does have its highlights and one can safely say that it is those highlights which wud reaffirm ur faith in the genius of Mano Murthy!
