Notes of ‘Mast Coffee’ wafting in the air…
This is a private Kannada pop album and yeah,it is titled ‘Mast Coffee’. Let us examine it and see whether this Sameer Kulkarni offering is more refreshing than the beverage itself !
First and foremost, it is ‘Nanna Kannamunde’ sung by Raghu Dixit and Sameer. Raghu Dixit, for those who are unfamiliar with him, is a unique musician…he composes, sings ,writes lyrics and most interestingly is said to have introduced a new genre of music called Indo-World-Folk-Rock !!!! A gold-medallist in Microbiology, this passionate artiste has a huge fan following and rightly so given the kinda life he infuses into any crowd he is asked to entertain. He includes loadz of new styles, variations, genres and labwork in his musical journeys thus giving listeners something to look forward to each time.
Well, coming back to the song, it has been sing in an inimitably superb style. The female chorus crooning in between adds to the mood and feel of the song. Hip-hop and pop elements are sprinkled in generous measure. The tune and beats are so enjoyable that anyone with an ear for rythm will be up on their feet instantly as in natural response to an awaited dance invitation! Raghu adds stretch effects ,expression and emphasis to the words appropriately. Overall, damn good.
‘Wake up every morning’ is next and it literally wud wake u up on a sleepy day at work! Chitra and Sameer pair up for this
song. While Chitra does the major role,Sameer supports with interspersed lyrics ,exclamations and faint pronunciations of ‘coffee’ here and there. The female chorus of the first song is used here too.Chitra deserves a word of praise for her adept handling of a pop number with many English lyrics ,without sounding ostentatious. Her rendition reflects a sense of gay abandonment yet intense involvement. Her energy is what makes this song worth its salt…or shall we say sugar??!!! Composition, tune and instruments are all classy.
‘Thaakath Song (Ind-Aus)’ is the next track sung by Rakesh Adiga and Sumanth. One for all u cricket freaks out there! It is more of spicy cricket- and- match- related dialogue spoken in a tune that would make fans go crazy especially if they r waiting for a match in which their favourite sports icons would play. This one deserves credit for building up enthusiasm in the target audience. Though the tune is not so refreshing, the purpose is more than served!
There’s also a remix version of ‘Wake up every morning’. Apart from a few effects added, the track is pretty much the same.
Finally, there’s the remix version of ‘Nanne kannamunde’ too. Again, like all remixes, it wont make u forget the orignial completely ! The original may be more of a favourite than this one.
That was ‘Mast Coffee’ for u. Hope u people enjoyed the flavour and the taste. Looking forward to more from the talented bunch of Raghu,Sameer ,Chitra and their team !! So long, folks !!
