Kal Manja - A musical perspective

So this is a comedy movie directed by T.Ramesh Prabhakaran. Let’s see how it fares in the musical scene . This flick’s been given music by the young and talented Emil Mohammad , of ‘Jinke mareenaa‘ fame.

The first one in the collection is ‘Komal mast kamaalu’ sung by Rahul Nambiyar. Now since this is a funny movie, the music director seems to have taken care to insert some sounds we usually associate with jokes or no-brainers. Even the singing style incorporates these elements. Rahul Nambiyar croons this number backed by suitable female chorus. He does a pretty decent job of it.

Next is ‘Yaaru yenu helidaru’ sung by Suchit and Saindhavi. This is mediumly paced with prominent beats. The speed of the male and female rendition varies at times and this experimentation pays off by adding to the worth of the song. One gets a feeling that Suchit could have made his presence in the song, better felt. Saindhavi also sounds subdued compared to her usually more forceful renditions. However, she is very melodious. The tune is pleasant and could well be on your playlist for a while.

Then we have ‘Love letter’. Vocals for this have been given by Yazin and Sunitha. Yazin does well exuding expressiveness while Sunitha excels with her honeyish voice. There are some English words thrown in here and there which serve well to carry the mood of the song. An enjoyable piece.

‘Knock out’ is what you have next. Jessie, Emil,Komal and Vicky are the singers in this number. Hilarious lyrics rendered in a humourous way define this song. Heavy drum beats add to the fun and could well make a group stand up on its feet to dance! Finally we have ‘Indhe Khanno’ sung by Binny which starts off in a (perhaps) intentionally bizarre manner. The track is a mixture of several types of sounds and at one point, you wonder if you are listening to several different songs overlapped or playing simultaneously.Percussion is moderated well.

Kote

Hi guys ! Let’s hear out some music generated by the composer Raghu Dixit for the Srinivasa Raju-directed flick, Kote.

Firstly, it is ‘Minchinanthe’. This starts off with a lively beat and rap kinda lyrics rendered enthusiastically. Raghu Dixit provides the male vocals while Akanksha Badami is the female lead. Raghu is energetic while Akanksha’s trademark deep voice leaves a mark.The supporting vocals are provided by Vijay Prakash, Alexis D’Souza and Sumanth and they do a good job of the same. Though the tune of this track is not all that great, what impresses is the orchestration and the generous sprinkling of well-executed male and female rap-style dialogue.

Next is ‘Shrungaara Lokaatha’. Sung by Deepak Doddara and Akanksha again. It has emphatic lyrics placed on fast-paced beats that make it quite a foot-tapper. Again , the composition is average but the percussion is definitely worth a mention.

‘Yaaradu heli swalpa’ is the next number and is crooned by Naina Puttaswamy and Vijay Prakash. The lyrics are rendered with a drag and has quite a few helpings of vocal expression. Basically a timepass kind of song; not that impressive.

And then, we have THE song of this movie ! ‘Nooru nooru koti’ is outstandingly beautiful , sung impeccably by the expressive Haricharan and the mellifluous Saindhavi. Splendid tune, amazing instrumentals and most importantly, extremely pleasing singing. Hints of traditional music and Sanskrit shlokas in between the lead vocals add to the charm of the song. All in all, a complete winner of a song !

‘Jagave Banna’ is another song in this collection. Raghu Dixit sings this himself and is full of life in his rendition. It is a fast-paced song with heavy drum beats and the kind you would find a crowd dancing to on the streets, on occasions of mass celebration.

Finally, we have ‘Yelavo Dootha’ by Pradeep and Raghu Dixit again. Raghu seems to have a penchant for strong beats in his compositions. This song is no different giving ample opportunity for head-bangers to do what they love! Rock and desi music come together in this fusion-based , experimental piece and the result is brilliant at some parts and mediocre at others.

So that was a round-up of Kote‘s music. While I would go with a 4/5 for the ‘Nooru nooru koti’ song, the rest of the songs make the rating for this flick’s music average at 2.5.

‘Sanchari’ – Kel ri !!

A.P.Arjun scores the music for this movie ‘Sanchari’. There are some breezy numbers in this collection. Let’s get it rated by RG’s musicometer.

Let us first see ‘Galiye Nodu Baa’ sung by the never-disappointing pair Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. It is a beautifully tuned track that pleases the ears. The instrumentals are quite commonplace but the artistes’ rendition create all the magic. Soulful and endearing are the words that can best describe the same. Good one.

Next is ‘Bhoomi Suttodu’ by Sonu and Chitra. The composition is average in terms of freshness but the laid-back feel and sweet singing could well make this song stay on your playlist for a while. Chitra’s voice is as youthful as ever and her fans will have a lot to enjoy while listening to this song.

That brings us to ‘Kannasaneyalli’ by Mohammad Aslam and Shreya again. This song deserves praise for its experimentation in terms of mixing fast and slow beats, spirited and slow singing and the like. The tempo gradually picks up speed , gives a kind of crescendo effect and then gracefully slides back to the original pace. Chorus, swaras and shehnai-like interludes further enhance the listenability of the song. Superb track.

KK and Anuradha Bhat sing ‘Marethoda maatide’. It starts off with a heated argument that sets the mood for the song. Attitude is well-packed into the female rendition. English lyrical dialogue are interspersed frequently complementing the male rendition which is paced slower and KK does justice to the same. The beats are engaging.

‘Kamali Kamali’ is next , sung by Malathi. The tune and composition is the often-heard kind ; not very new. It is a fast song and has heavy beats. The kind many refer to these days as ‘mass’ songs. The singers have done a commendable job of singing the words with high speed while maintaining clarity in the output.

So that sums up ‘Sanchari’. Barring a few parts which seem to be familiar fare, the collection has some artistic brilliance not worth missing out upon. Listen today !

Krishnan Love Story keli!

Hi ppl ! Reviewing the music of a recent release ‘Krishnan Love Story’ . Its got some foot-tapping fare thanks to music director V.Sridhar. Let’s check it out.

The collection starts off with ‘Gully Cricket’ sung by Desmond Louis and Sridhar himself . One might actually consider playing it as a background score for their sessions of street cricket . Desmond is bubbling with energy and the rest of the singers follow suit. Instrumentals dominate the show. Good one.

Sonu Nigam and Vidyashree pair up for ‘Hrudayave Bayaside Ninnane’. A beautiful number , it starts off with a enthusiastic chorus. Sonu is fantastic as usual and Vidyashree pleases with her melodious rendition but could ve been more forceful in her voice throw. Definitely, an enjoyable song.

Next is ‘Mosa Maadalendu Neenu’ by Kailash Kher (wow !) and Sosca. His voice suits the proclamation kind of song that this is. Kailash is forceful and effective in rendition.

Anuradha Bhat sings ‘Nee Aadadu Maatu’. Brilliant composition and excellent vocals. Sridhar has done a good job. Anuradha contributes well with commendable vocal movement across octaves.

Rajesh Krishnan sings the male version of the above-mentioned song. Again, this one catches your ears for a while. Rajesh does justice. Kudos to the team !

‘Ondu Sanna Aasege’ by Deepak Doddara is next. It is a sad song with a reasonably fast tempo – not a very common trend. But it works for this song since the tune is created by well-regulated notes of the violin and guitar and the subdued singing of Deepak.

Anoop Seelin and Sridhar team up for ‘Tumba Aaramagi’. It is a fast-paced song with comical lyrics – the type many refer to as ‘mass’ songs . Power-packed singing is the hallmark of this song but it fades in comparison to the merits of the other songs in the album.

That brings us to an end of the review of this movie’s music. The two songs to look out for here are definitely ‘Nee Aadada Maatu’ and ‘Hridayave Bayaside Ninnane’. So long, folks !

Pruthvi

Manikanth Kadri has scored the music for this recent flick. Lets check out the numbers in this album.

Firstly it is ‘Hejjegondu hejje’ rendered by Tippu and Swetha Mohan. Both have pleasant voices and do justice to this track. Background humming adds a lot of beauty to the song. It is a lively tune backed by interesting instrumentals and peppered with numerous voice-throw tactics. A foot-tapper, to say the least..

Next is ‘Nenappidu’ by Karthik (yes!) and Shruti Hassan. This song’s tune is not the kind which will arrest your ears for being refreshingly new but it’s got attributes that will make it stay in ur memory for quite some time! The beat is catchy and the life put into every word by the passionate singers make this track special.

Talking of Sunidhi , the next song is a nice surprise. It’s called ‘Kuku kokileyanda’ and has been sung by her and Rajesh. It is amazing how Sunidhi sings the Kannada lyrics with ease. This number is peppy and fast at times and mediumly-paced otherwise with a traditional feel. Its got elements of folk and classical sprinkled all over it.

‘Ninagenthe Vishesha’ is the next track by the passionate singer Kunal Ganjawala and Hansika. Its got a beautiful tune.This song cud be on ur Ipods for quite some time. Hansika’s voice is sweet but Kunal steals the show with the energy he infuses into every word.

Haricharan and Anitha sing ‘Hagyella nee nodabeda’.This starts off in a subtle way and once the beats take over, you are convinced this is gonna be a treat. The experimentation has paid off leading to some new variety for listeners to look forward to. Haricharan’s rendition lingers in your mind even after the song is over. Good one.

‘Jagave Ninadu’ is the last track in the album , sung by Benny Dayal, Asif Akbar and Sindu. The curtain-raiser is a chorus executed elegantly by a group ,setting the mood for the song. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this number. Power-packed rendition, excellent percussion and innovative composition (with hip-hop kinda elements interspersed here and there) make it a winner. The singers deserve credit for bringing alive the theme of the movie with this song.

So that was ‘Pruthvi’…a collection worth acquiring. Listen today !

Varshadhaare- A pleasant musical shower

Hi all ! Let’s check out ‘Varshadhaare’.

Ajanish Lokesh gives the music for this Payal Ghosh-Mithun Tejaswi starrer . One would expect some really breezy numbers looking at the film title and Lokesh doesnt disappoint.

Firstly , the song ‘Baaninda Male Haniye’ sung by Chitra KS. Beautiful notes take over supported by enthusiastic instrumentals. Chitra is melodious to say the least . The tune is lively and has a rythm akin to falling drops of rain. Good one.

Kunal Ganjawala has become a regular with Kannada songs now. He pairs up with Mahalaxmi Iyer for the next song ie ‘Beku bekunta nanna’. Kunal puts life into every word while Mahalaxmi’s voice is sweetness dipped in purity. Kunal’s vocal drool and diction is noteworthy.

‘Ekanta indu jotheyagide’ is next. Chitra again sings this. Trust her to deliver tough,heavy and melancholy-based songs with ease.She is impeccable. The flute provides the backbone of this song. A good composition with not-so-often-heard kind of variations.

Javed Ali, of ‘Jashn-e-bahaara’ (from the movie Jodha-Akbar) fame sings ‘Keli ee preetiganta’. Javed sounds subdued in certain parts of the track and could have been a bit more forceful in his rendition. Insturmentals dont endear much and one would be drawn into the song more to follow the narrative , than for musical reasons.

‘Maha Brahmachari’ is next by Karthik . He does justice to this piece of music that is quite laid-back with minimalist instruments requiring subtle vocal contributions. Though the song doesnt present much of new variety to feast on, it is definitely one you would like to add to your list of pleasant songs.

Finally, we have the male version of ‘Ekanta indu jotheyagide’ sung by Chetan Sosca. Background music sounds drowned out in certain parts but the overall compostion and rendition do impress.

That was ‘Varshadhaare’ for you.The catchy feature of this collection is that every track begins with a couple of lines rich in literary terms, delivered in poetic fashion to create a befitting intro to the message of the song.
